Earlier this week, I received in the mail a copy of "100 Greatest U.S. Coins" By Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth (mine is the 2008 Edition) for the whopping sum of $4.97 delivered (I love thriftbooks). As I finally opened the package and was reading it today I saw that I had some of those. Here are mine. Some are repeats from the other 1st year type set thread, a couple are not. I will likely add other entries if I acquire any. Post yours on the list.

Edit: adjusted for reordered ranking in later edition of the list.

PCGS has this as a registry set so the list can be seen here: https://www.PCGS.com/setregistry/fa...osition/1576

#12 then, now dropped to #18 - 1792 half disme

#13 then, now dropped to #20 - 1794 Silver Dollar

#16 then, now raised to #15 - 1793 Chain Cent

#20 then, now dropped to #23 - 1856 Flying Eagle cent

#49 then, now dropped to #59 - 1916 Standing Liberty quarter

#61 then, now dropped to #71 - 1796 Quarter Dollar

@Winesteven that seems like a fine cornerstone for a great collection.

macmercury, Coinfrog, jbuck, and numismatic student - thank you all for your kind words.

numismatic student - This is part of my Standing Lib Quarter FH DATE set. I chose to do a DATE set to keep the cost somewhat within reason. I'm still on the hunt for upgrades for 1923, 1926, and 1927.

While mine is a lovely set, your 18th Century coins are night and day more amazing! Congratulations - you should be so very proud!

Here's a hotlink to my set:

Wonderful set @Winesteven. I guess this way you avoid the 1927-S which is a stopper at Gem FH and the 1918/7-S which is also almost impossible at Gem FH.

I saw that Great Collections had some Gem FH 1923, 26 and 27s coming up for auction, but mostly in NGC holders which you would have to cross over:

1923 NGC MS66FH: https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...NGC-MS-66-FH

1923 NGC MS67FH: https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...NGC-MS-67-FH

1923-S PCGS MS66+FH: https://www.coastcoin.com/items/230908/

1926 NGC MS66FH: https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...NGC-MS-66-FH

1926 PCGS MS66FH: https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...CGS-MS-66-FH

1927 PCGS MS66FH: https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...CGS-MS-66-FH

I appreciate the searching help. However:

1. While I have absolute respect for the quality of NGC grading, my sets are in the PGCS Registry. Unfortunately, they do not accept coins graded byNGC. I do not want to incur the financial risk of attempting to cross.

2. To make the set even more challenging for me (besides requiring each of the 14 coins to be FH), I decided to only include coins with a CAC. My 1926 MS64FH "filler" does NOT have a CAC.

Even though this doesn't compare to any of the coins listed, here is #14. My grandfather bought this in 1995.

It always had green goop on the reverse, and recently I cleaned it with acetone. This revealed a bend in the coin

But it's a perfect fit for a Lincoln cent album.
