I'm going through a roll of 1964-D LMCs and they're giving me a hard time.

After going through the roll, I seemed to have 3-5 of what I thought is doubling on the bar of the L in LIBERTY. Now I know these aren't Doubled Dies, as they don't match any of the doubling for that year, nor do they have the apperance of doubled die doubling on the L.

So my question is, what is it? Machine Doubling? DDD?

I'm asking this for future reference so when I come upon it again, I can ignore it.

Thank you.

Your coin is showing extreme die wear on the 'L' area. (to the left) The die was aging at that point.

On the PRE 1969 cent dies, the swelling of the master hub made the location of the 'L' change through the years. The 1960's show this extreme die swelling more than other years.

Perfect explanation Coop! Thank you for the detailed photos and descriptions as well, that really helped me visualize it.

Thank you very much, that answered my question entirely!
