Well I am just totally open to suggestions on whether this is damage, a struck through, or something else I haven't even considered. The coin has clearly been mishandled, and Lincoln looks like he's off to Mardi Gras, but the obverse doesn't show very much wear. The reverse, well... Opinions welcome. Edges are flat, not rounded, and weight is 3.13g 1942-S Lincoln Wheat cent - reverse whatzit   |

That's a tough on TB. The wear on the reverse rim would have me putting it in the "consider PMD but hang on to it" pile. |

Ha  this is a whatzit... Well, I am leaning to say a major Greaser here but not 100%, since I can see some detail in the left wheat stalk. So based on the obverse, it looks in the VF grading category. |

First reaction is Greaser, however, the soft rim smells of post strike issues--2x2 worthy in my book. |

I'll go with a greased up die - seeing how the coin weighs in a little heavy. That amount of wear would not put on weight, but remove it. So in my estimation all the copper it went into the striking chamber is still there.

1. A device shortened by grease, with show the outer edges as wider. Note all the reverse devices are showing the widening, so I feel a lot of grease was the issue with the reverse design. Note the tops of the rim are showing some flattening, but I feel that is just circulation wear. If the coin was altered by sanding the rims would be the first place to notice. this. Weight is normal, so not a thinned planchet issue or a lamination issue.
2. The cheek looks like damage to the coin. But that is what I'm seeing on this one with my detective skills.

Certainly looks like the reverse die was really packed with grease to weaken the details so much. And being packed that tightly into the die devices might also hamper the rims from striking up fully (like most greasers do). IMHO, the way the reverse letters are touching the rim is making me think Die Deterioration is coming into play as well. Grease wouldn't cause that "collision". Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
