Most cupro-nickel coins go this color when they are buried.You can see the original white metal showing through on some of the high points of the design and lettering. A spender.

@NimisRob It is a possibility. Good thinking, but also if it is cooper, which your photos do not clear this point, it is another thing.
PS. My specialty is metallurgical coins. I never see a coin so red like your photos, and the 1967 if in any environment could not have this heavy red, pink brown.

Not missing clad layers. It is environmental damage. John1  ( I'm no pro, it's just my humble opinion )

Metal detector find.  If it were missing cladding, you would not have the light and darker colors. On your coin where the lighter colors are, is where the coating is starting to wear off of the coin. Just a spender. |

It may have a copper appearance, but it is not. the tops of the devices are shiny from the nickel/copper cladding where the environmental toning was rubbed back off during circulation
