Hi all As a follow on from early comment on this coin could you tell me if the below is lamination error and also a poor strike where the denticles are all bit missing on the left. (or just wear and PMD). It also looks under loupe that I found another dot just above the dirt mark between 1 & 9 where the possible lamination error is. The amount of dots in various locations on different pre deccimal coins certainly supports the idea of rust on the die.

Interesting. He states no known varieties on 1928 Aust Penny. Calls the broken 8 under 'cracks & chips' but says it may be a variety. There are a number of broken 8 varieties I believe? Some R7 like the dot before P according to Renniks apparently?

Not sure - there is a Renniks predecimal errors book by Ian McConnelly which probably covers these things and would probably be more up to date.

Thanks Mr T. I have it on order and should arrive Thursday. Will keep me amused whilst I quarantine. Positive covid test today the day after wifey is released from her quarantine. Unbelievable! If anyone wants a coin looked up to see if it is there then please shout out. Very happy if I can give at least a little something back to the community.

I purchased the Renniks Australian Pre-Decimal & Decimal Coin Errors (First Edition) edited by Ian McConnelly. It is not really a list of errors, more a guide to the vaious error types with illustrations of some of the more fantastic and bizarre errors that have come from the mint (and some examples of coins that have been altered post mint.
It does have a helpful list of prices realised at sale and auction for various errors and varieties.

The book you need is "Renniks Australian Pre-Decimal Coin Varieties...by Ian McConnelly(2nd edition) blue cover. Lists a lot of varieties but no prices. Is not complete by any means but a good start.

Hi ttk. It is a great easy to use reference for any 'finds' . It certainly isn't the complete amount of all varieties but has so many that I hadn't even heard of nor see on ebay etc. Any you have that you want checked please shout out. I paid $35 from Renniks because I wanted some other stuff as well but you can pick up mid to high $20's if you hunt around I think.

Thanks for the review. I may invest in one myself. I have around 400 error coins to go through once I have re-housed my father's main pre-decimal collection. Cheers
