@numismatic student, Good! I feel much better now! I saw the bump, and that's what jogged in my mind. Glad this one's the real deal.

Credit my wife for remembering that the article was in Coin World. I knew I had seen something on it, but she's my much, much better half. She remembers everything.

Aaaaand she just reminded me to offer a thought on the grade. See where I'd be without her memory?

It looks AU-55, likely old cleaning, but I can't tell from the pics if the reverse actually has the purple color, or if that's purplish just because of the lighting. If it's just darker toning, that could be from storage conditions. Purple coloring might suggest retoning after a more recent cleaning.

@fc, always appreciate your help here - and now Mrs. FC's help too. I think we can't rule out that it's a fake definitively, just that it does not appear to be this particular fake in the CW article. You've probably forgotten more than what I have seen in the coin realm and I am always glad that you are around to share your perspective. You keep it fun and challenging around here, bringing new interesting thoughts. Also many thanks to @Slider23 for sharing his thoughts on the coin and to all who contributed to this thread.

This one came in. Thoughts? Thanks!

Coin lights up red under a light and the dark toned portion in the upper left quadrant in the reverse lights up blue.

This coin would receive a details grade. AU Details Cleaned/Scratched. Looks like the seller is playing games with the photos.

Where are you seeing scratches that would detail this coin?

I see them with my 10x loupe. They look like hairlines to the naked eye. I do see a lot of luster in the fields.

Much better pics, I'd say AU-55. I don't see any concerns about authenticity. The scratches are definitely there, but it's a borderline call whether they or the light hairlines near the date and lower reverse would detail the coin.

I think it would details , stained . The scratches are borderline. I have seen worst scratches straight grade on A Trade dollar.
Still A pretty nice coin.

I think it's good. Great comments from Fortcollins however, always good to be hesitant on these Trade dollars. As to a grade? I believe it's a nice AU55 straight grade too.

I think it straight grades. The obverse scratches are consistent with an AU coin. The reverse rim porosity and the semi-circular ding at the ribbon and eagle's right wing (our visual left) are the things a picky grader might flag on a bad day. The purple coloration under red light doesn't concern me. It looks like a decent example with a better than usual strike.
