I would have no problem assuming this coin is genuine, I see no red flags. Counterfeits of these are seldom seen anyway. In regards to the toning, the columbian exposition half dollars strangely seem to get that terminal black toning quite often, more than any other series I've seen. So, dark toning on the columbian halves is extremely common.
I also don't see any obvious problems. But I'd have to say, seeing that much detail on the sails and hair of an apparently circulated coin is pretty unusual. If you can get a weight, that would help.
