Is this from die polishing or feeder fingers. It's a 2017-P Effigy Mounds quarter? The scratches appear on the field at bottom left of Washington's bust they extend onto the bust, stop, and then continue in the NE direction on the other side of the bust into the field again. Thank you   |

Could you enclose images of the full obverse and reverses on this coin. Also a wider shot of the affected areas on the faces of the coin. (both sides if affected on both)New information? Well consider the locations of FFD on quarters from before?  On this coin, this is in a different direction. So either the dies locations were changed or a different setup for the dies are being changed. Meaning. 1. Possibly the obverse is now the anvil die, and the reverse is the hammer die? 2. Or a different setup on the machines is noticed on this coin. (Maybe different types of machines are used?) So this is something we will need to think about on future coins we are seeing this on. CoopHome: On this quarter the location of the Feeder Finger Damage is different than normal? Change of the hammer and anvil die selections?

So this is something we will need to think about on future coins we are seeing this on. COOP, if you has some information on this will be well appreciate. Direction it is different (bizarre). I ask more information's, because from 1999 the anvil and the hammer are complete different set-up and also metal composition. The anvil it is the die who take the forces of the strike and pushed down to the stabilized point. The Hammer is more elastic then the anvil. Also from 1999 the anvil and the hammer do not has same insert-holding marks ( this just to push out an error). Your theorem I do not contradict or push-out of the possibilities. It is very interesting and due to the new designs of the coins make sense. Thanks, Silvio |

For now, I'm checking to see what appears on the designs so far. If something changed, it could be a different type of machine used. (Partial change on some machines, but the dies could be used on them differently. Just noticed this one as a start of the investigation.

The images are pretty good, the obverse may have a little too much glare, but not too bad over all.

Note the mark on the 'M' on 'UNUM' and 'BUS'? Those are coin scratches. The devices on those areas are incuse. Thus the surface has field scratches and rim damage on those areas. Where as on the obverse, those do appear to be Feeder finger scratches.  Edited by coop
