Yes, I know this coin has suffered PMD but I thought it would an interesting post. Retained bird shot maybe? Coin weighs 3.00g

These are neat to come across.
It seems like the item is showing on the reverse as well, but with more of a copper color to it.
I found a Lincoln with a slightly larger circle embedded and someone suggested it might be a nail that had been driven through the one I found.

Could be bird shot or a BB pellet. The only other possibility I can think of is that someone was trying to repair a holed coin. Why you would do this to a worn Wheat cent is beyond me though. An interesting find as you note and worth keeping in a 2x2 for the novelty.

Very interesting find. Would be fun to determine the coin's weight. For me, 2x2 worthy.

very old coin that has seen a lot of history. I think it is a good example of history and is a good conversation piece.

Pretty much just a Wheat cent now with the damage to the coin. It's had a hard life.

Lead bird shot seems like a good possibility. Interesting how long it must have circulated after the damage. And how many people must have held it over the years wondering the same thing.

Shotgun lead shot. Looks like it just made it out the back side. Thats probably why it stuck on for so long.
