thx tdziemia and NumisRob, also for sharing great story

here is my second Dukaton or "Zilveren Rijder" rescued from the wrecked VOC ship 't Vliegend Hert
the 1733 piece is from the province of Overijssel (Delm. 1036).

Overijssel (Transissulania) is named because the province lies at the east side of the river IJssel in the Netherlands.
The coat of arms shows a nice detail: the Dutch lion wading trough a river. Another nice detail is the crane on the obverse, showing the signature of the mintmaster: Coenraad Hendrik Cramer

Duchy of Lorraine 1729 Liard. This place is one of the themes in my collection, and Duke Leopold who reigned from 1690-1729 was a prolific coiner, so there will be a mixture of homely coppers and some nicer billon and silver posted over the next 3 weeks.
A historical note is that Leopold was the father of Francis II of Lorraine (my 1738 coin), who married Maria-Theresa of Austria, beginning the Hapsburg-Lorraine dynasty that ruled the Austrian Empire.

After the really nice 1728 coin posted by keith12, I feel a lot less awkward posting my ugly one...

Russian Empire, Peter II
1 kopek 1728, Moscow mint
KM# 185.2 (date upward), Numista 16529

I used to think that this type is the first definite appearance of Saint George on Russian coinage. But apparently some very scarce Peter I kopek types do in fact include the dragon and not merely the rider.
(In addition, several 15th century coins of the Grand Principality of Moscow also featured Saint George complete with the dragon; it is debatable whether such early issues qualify as Russian, though.)
