In 1978 all UK coins except the 10p were issued for circulation. Here is the 2 pence: 1978 Isle of Man £1 - the first British base-metal pound coin, though more a collectors' gimmick than a real circulating coin: 1978 Tokelau dollar: 1978 France 1 franc: Switzerland 5 francs: Panama 10 Balboas: Singapore 20 cents: Turkey 1 Lira: Argentina 10 Pesos: North Korea 50 chon: Italy 100 Lire:

1978 was a busy year in New Zealand coins, all but the 2 cents were issued and in good numbers. It was the start of 5 years of consistent issuing to 1982. A nice 5 cent and 10 cent coin. Finding shiny examples of NZ circulation coins before 1982 is getting harder and most coins from 1967 to 1981 are usually dull and worn (F - VF). Amazingly many 1967 are found in high grade due to a high number of sets being "released" into circulation in the 80s and 90s. 1978 Australia 5c and 2c, all the coins were released in Australia in 1978, in fact this era saw coins released every year for nearly all denominations. Some world coins of 1978 Spain 5 and 25 Pesetas - again both dated 1975, but the stars say these are 1978 editions! As we get back before 1975, we will hit the Franco era. Mexico 5 Pesos - this is a large thin coin (33mm) and was recently reissued from a base silver coin, that started as fine silver in the 1950s. Ironically a 10 Peso coin (I will show one tomorrow) had also been issued and this was multi sided cupronickel and smaller! 1 peso, yes this coin was only marginally smaller (29mm) than the coin above and was basically issued from 1970 (When it replaced a 10% silver coin - from a scale of silver reduction from 90% fine and 38mm in 1914 to this) up to 1983 when it was replaced by a tiny stainless steel coin. What was bizarre was that the metal must have been cheap by then. Also in the late 1970s, the Mexicans were issuing silver circulation coins of 50 and 100 Pesos too! By the mid 1980s they were worthless muck metal too!
