Alright folks. Looks like I have an interesting find. This looks to be a feeder finger error. The scratches are deep and do not go over the date numbers at all.

Would this mean it was damage on the planchet? This was found in an uncirculated bankroll. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks!

Looks like it. It is in the direction of the older style dies.

Thanks Coop! I'm my short time of looking, I've not seen such significant Feeder Finger Damage. Would this be considered rare? I have no idea what value to put on this coin?

If you look between the neck and ponytail, they're there also. I don't know about value it seems like there is a lot of them out there.

A collector crazy about Feeder Finger Damage (I suppose there are a few out there...) might fork over $1-3 for a good example.

Each Feeder Finger Damage can be different. Slight to extreme. Just depends on how bent the Feeder Fingers become:

The damage to the Fingers, Damage the dies when the fingers are altered and have to adjust to fit into the Slot for ejecting the fingers

Thanks for the welcome Coinfrog and the insightful images and commentary.

So the damage is not caused to the planchet by the feeder fingers but the damage to the die by the feeder fingers. I had no idea. Thanks again!

The damage is to the die. Thus all coins until the die is polished, will show the same damage. Thus why you find more than just one example affected the same.

(A die alteration that affected the fields on that die with the Feeder Finger Damage)
