This Washington quarter was graded by PCGS as AU58. I cannot see any signs of circulation. What am I missing?

Sharper images including closeups of the high points would a good place to start.

there's discoloration on George's cheek, but from these photos can't tell if that's evidence of circulation

Can't see in these photos but it most likely has rubbing on the high points.

there is a fine line between a high 58 and an MS coin. in some cases you need the coin in hand so that you can rotate in the right light in order to see all the high points. these photos are just too blurry to note that difference. look for missing luster on those high points on the profile. if you look at the wing on the left side it does appear to have some slight wear on it

Even the grading services have difficulty with 58 or 62 , 63 .
Many 58 Coins sell for Mint State money .
Excellent examples ..Barber Quarters with nice eye appeal
in 58 often bring Silly money!

Pictures not quite sharp enough to determine if there is no wear on the high points.
Look for disturbance of luster in those areas.

The area in front of the nose looks to have broken luster which can indicate some circulation.

i thought that area in front of the profile could have been lighting reflection but badthad may be correct.

try rotating the coin and see if the luster is gone from that area. if you you found your answer

This coin was circulated. Maybe just in the banks. Front of the nose and also the outside of the rim show this. Steel be a nice coin.
