Hi y'all,

After finding two of these today and searching through PCGS populations, I'm wondering if it might be worth grading. My question is the back of the coin looks like it's missing copper in a few spots around the memorial. I've seen this before, but was curious if it's a direct correlation to the RPM, or if maybe it's not really an RPM. But maybe some sort of Machine Doubling that is to blame.

All the best in your hunting! Krystina

The missing copper has nothing to do with an RPM. What attribution number do you think the RPM is?I am not seeing the RPM with these pics. Not worth sending in either way,IMHO.

the D looks like Machine Doubling

keep in mind a coin really should be above $150 range to be worth it to slab. the cost of grading is ridiculous and chews up the majority of value on most coins unless they are rare or extremely high grade.

i.e. economy grading at PCGS is $22 per coin plus a membership fee of $69 plus about $5-7 shipping each way.

your coin would need to be MS68 to warrant slabbing. its not close

I'm in with split plating associated with the mint mark and the memorial building--not uncommon with zinc core cents from the 80s onward. I could see MS63+.

Are you grading the coin lower because of the split plating? I didn't think that was considered damage and not counted against the coin in grading?

its not damage and would probably fall into the eye appeal category imo. lots of die polishing going on

the coin may make MS65RD but does it really matter. its a keeper though

retail value
MS64 - $3.60
MS65 - $7.80
MS66 - $16.25

I agree, it's not a RPM, not worth grading either.
