@kac, best practice is to start a new thread for each new coin so I have split your thread in two.

Hopefully these are better! If you want anything else closer up just let me know. And I've had this coin for atleast 15 yrs now and I've never once polished it so as far as I know it hasnt been. Ive never even cleaned it with soap and waterbor nothing. Just keep things stored properly and best I can.

no one is saying you polished the coin. remember you have a coin thats 130yrs old. someone along the line may have.

still too much light. you cant use any type of lighting from overhead but these are better. I dont think the coin was polished it was the light source. based on your new photos I see a dull coin with minimal wear. I believe it was dipped at some point and most of the original surfaces have been removed. the dull fields are particularly noticeable on the right obv field as well as on the blow up of the reverse

I'm at AU details

Thank you both. Can someone tell in person if a coin has been dipped or cleaned before? Cause I'm assuming that knocks down the price some by the sounds of it. My phone just must take too bad of photos cause even the magnifying apps dont work but every picture I take no matter the light souce, it seems to shine too bright in pictures.

Im curious if it has been as well cause I'm the 3rd generation in ny family its been passed to and my grandfather says he didnt dip it when he had it either but theres still the time before us
