yep, no good for me. I wonder why NGC didn't state 'details cleaned' in stead of 'altered color'...

Not my series, but I was unaware of "satin proofs" from this era. Anyone have some quick input?

It appeared cleaned to me as well but I had it on my watchlist anyway. Already about where I wanted to pay so I'm probably out. I just like frog was also unaware of satin proofs from that era.
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better?

So, I was going to be bidding against you on this? lol - Well after looking at the new price, I'm out - at $100.00, I may have bought it, but not at 200. especially for a cleaned coin. Before checking the PCGS pop report / price guide I would have been a player at around $150 ish.. Kinda surprised how low they have these on the price guide compared to what people are trying to get on the bay. So I am actually way out at $220.

@Dearborn - your impressive early Lincoln proof set is way too advanced to even consider an impaired example such as this. Glad you chose to stay away.
Take a look at my other hobby ... https://www.jk-dk.artToo many hobbies .... too much work .... not enough time.

Yep, but there is another I'm looking at currently going for $500, a PCGS graded Brilliant PR64RB which is the one I was aiming for anyway. I just hope it wont go sky-hi on me.
And - You bet Coinfrog, anytime.

Which means, that eventually I'll need both to complete my early proof set. EDIT for an update: I won the 36 brilliant proof I was watching - so - only one left to find and acquire, the satin proof

personally I wouldnt touch it. my best guess is that the reason they said altered color and not cleaned is that they already gave it the details designation and they wanted to highlight that it was altered color. so the detail designation already took that into consideration. I dont ever remember ever seeing a details coin with multiple reasons on it.

@Coinfrog the mint basically didn't learn from the matte proofs that the public didn't like anything but brilliant proofs d when they brought back proofs in 1936. They decided they looked too much like business strike coins and switched to brilliant proofs during the 36 mintage. 600ish satin proofs are estimated to survive.
