After many tries and errors it has become apparent that Macro Photos of coins is not possible with a IPhone. More than likely a poster will have to buy a macro lens.

i took this with an iphone 10.

i had to compress the photo to upload it here so I can get a more detailed image from the original if I want to.

if you arent getting this kind of quality with the phone there is room to improve your setup. feel free to message me if you want to talk about your setup.

suttodh, as Carrs demonstrated you can take amazingly good pics of coins with an iPhone. But you can't do it offhand. You'll need to place the phone on a stable surface several inches above the coin, use "square picture" setting, adjust lighting, frame the coin appropriately, and use the timer. There are MANY posts on photographing coins with an iPhone - search for the one where a bottle cap is used.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I take coin photos with my iPad all the time. Good lighting and not trying to get too close to the coin are things I watch for. I then crop to desired size.
