I'm looking for opinions on the grade of this ten cent coin. What do you think? Thank you.

I see lots of views but no comments. Lol. This is not an obverse that I am very good at grading.

The reverse looks like it could be MS to me almost. The photos look dull though so perhaps there is little or no lustre or perhaps it's just the angle. I can't see visible wear.

The obverse puzzles me a little. Okay a lot. There appears to be significant wear on the bun/knot/pony tail or whatever it's called but the rest (braid and laurels) could be excused as a weak strike. I feel like it's not typically struck weakly there though. So I'm going to say that the obverse appears to be EF-AU leaning towards EF but it's possible it's an oddly poorly struck coin that's MS.

Partly I feel like the photos aren't really good enough to grade it reliably and partly I feel like without having it in hand it's impossible to be sure one way or the other. And mostly I feel that's why nobody else has commented yet. Lol. I'll be interested to see what more knowledgeable folk than I am have to say. :)

Thanks. Photos really are lacking. I'm terrible at it. Thanks for the feedback.

Would have preferred sharper pics, but I will have a go anyway.

Probably the slightest amount of wear on the high points; hard to see because they are hiding under the patina. The fields appear to be dinged up a bit, rims OK.

Caddis,
What is your photo taking set up?
Does anyone think it has been harshly cleaned?

It looks AU to MS, but most likely cleaned, the REV seems to show signs of cleaning in the center at some point in the last 130 years. Not sure if it is the photo, but probably dipped as well, the coin looks kind of dull, but that could just be the photo.

A decent coin overall. Would be curious what it looks like in hand.

I can't quite make out why the parallel lines in the reverse field.
Only the field seems to be affected; leaves, lettering and crown all look to be OK.

Looks in the AU range from photos. Agree with Sel69, I see what looks like fine parallel scratches in the fields of the Reverse, could also be on devices but can't tell from photo. Dipped I would say for sure.

From what I can see, I'll say AU details (cleaned ).

I'll echo the comments about the photos from all, while also proclaiming my own inabilities regarding same...

That all being said, here's my kick at the can...

First thing I notice -- cleaning. Secondly, the wear itself is difficult to pinpoint with precision based on the photos, but I would agree this coin would grade in the EF-AU range, with a "details" designation.

Nice coin!

Thanks again for the feedback. The photos do make the coin look liveless. And I'm not even a beginner at this stuff but I think it's been cleaned as well. I will try to take a different photo. I just use the iPhone with indirect light. Amazingly how poorly they come out&

Thanks John. What do you use to raise a smaller coin, like a dime, from the surface?

I'd say it's lower down in the AU area. The lustre appears to be confined to the outer regions, around the lettering, at least on the obverse. Possibly/probably cleaned or dipped at some point though I would not say harshly so. Decent coin....welcome at my bbq any time.
