coins in locked cases with chairs on top is industry standard. the coins are generally more secure in the convention hall (which usually has overnight security) than in the hotel room.

Would be very interested in hearing what the organizer's security plan was going into the show. On paper, was probably robust, however, the execution failed. Wonder where liability falls...

Any reports on exactly what was taken, other than types included in the article? I'm curious what's in the "theft" market nowadays. Hopefully, he had them all inventoried as to what was in the case and has photos to prove it.
Since the show was still open...did any of the other dealers see the theft happen? You would think they would notice. Hmmmm I'm suspicious.

Liability wholly on the dealer . When you take a table at a show the form usually states the venue and show organizers..not liable!

I read this several days ago - said the guy left early while the place was still open and people walking around.. Not a smart move..

It may not be smart, but dealers do that all the time - they zip the case covers closed and pile chairs on their cases.

This has happened at previous NYINC shows as well. If I were a dealer, I would have serious doubt ever going again.

T-BOP the word is religious. The chair on the table is very common. I've observed it at small shows and the biggest shows ( ANA WFoM). The alternative is to start tearing down your display at 3pm, put everything into the show's security room and then setup again Sunday morning. At which point people would be here complaining that some dealers left early weren't ready when I showed up.

CCF Did this at every coin show we went to, never an issue. Many ANA and FUN shows. Many here helped put the chairs up.
