This Morgan silver dollar has a whole lot of issues. The reverse looks MD to me and it is also plague with some sort of gooey material, not sure how I'm gonna get rid of that.
The mint mark is oval, is this a VAM?
Thanks in advanced.

Did you check the VAM site? Maybe 100% pure acetone on the gooey material?

@John1...I did check the VAM site, but I was not sure if this coin is a VAM because of the oval O, or it has to have those different varieties as described.

I don't think that's an oval-O. Most of those MM were set higher Look at the center of the O and consider that it may have taken a hit as well. Check out VAM-3 and see what you think. It's a little hard to tell, but the date looks similar.

Try a long acetone soak for possible removal of the "goo."

Acetone - many times it takes a less than a minute, but you cannot possibly hurt the coin with it being in the acetone longer.

Just put it in something covered so the acetone will not all evaporate. I use a baby food jar. I would be surprised if it took a couple of minutes.

If you are going to get into VAMming, you need to do some studying first. I personally, would suggest more basic coin study before jumping in the deep end but if this is what you want, start here.
