Seems to be a great deal, Numismatic Student.

first thought was that the area in the obv right field had something on it and someone did something to try and remove it. nothing abrasive so I think it grades straight. its just your eye goes right to that area

obv looks close to 45 reverse will hold it XF40

decent price

Looks like a good coin for a 7070 album.

I would agree, a nice coin for a 7070

XF45. Very attractive coin, sharply struck, with lovely original color.

Of note -- I am (slightly) concerned about the difference in toning in the fields where you noted the marks. This may be evidence of attempting to clean up the field, but if so, it doesn't appear to have caused much harm, and I would expect the coin to grade straight.

This is a second 1843 dollar that sold for $640. I intended to bid on it but was busy when it ended. How do you think it compares to the coin in this thread? I thought they were very similar. Different sellers.

This is the coin in the OP of this thread.

Looks like a details coin to me. Possible graffiti removal in the right side obverse field. The area looks like it was worked on.

AU Details

The right field most likely kept the price down on the OP coin.

I don't think it was tooled or smoothed.
