Hi everyone,
I've only been here in this forum for a few days, and even though I think I've devoted lots and lots of time with the pictures and resolution to upload to my posts, it seems like something new always comes up to block the upload. Grrrrrrr!
Just wondering why this is so complex and if there might be a better way, app or method to make our life easier?
I've been through the tutorials, tried different approaches and managed to post quite a few images, but it takes almost forever!
There's got to be a better way?!?!?!?!?
Besides the pictures and the frustration attached to posting pics, I have found the members amazing and professional! All my questions were answered promptly and I am learning so much!!!!
Thanks to all!

You just have to snap a photo, save it, then it has to be edited to be under 300kb, which typically means just saving in a resolution of 800 pixels wide or lower and in jpg format or webp format. Most photos are too big until you resize and change to jpg which will just say it has to be under 300kb.

I use the free fastone image viewer as another option https://www.faststone.org/
CTRL+R resizes. under pixes change width to 800 pixels (or can try 600 or 500). Just make sure preserve aspect ratio is checked (lanczos 3) CTRL+S saves. Change to jpg for format. If you click options in bottom right you can even further tweak the quality to ensure its under 300kb. You can also hit R to rotate an image if needed or hit the right mouse and select crop to crop, or later learn to edit colors (which you can learn over time)

I'll definitely try that Datadragon. Thank you!
I must say however, Faststone doesn't seem much easier than Pixar, which is what the forum post brings you to when trying to upload photos. I tried to download Faststone already, and I'm not finding it on my iPhone.#128547;
So if I understand correctly, you first size, crop and resolution your images prior to posting them, right? Haven't done that yet. I'll give it a shot, but again, not sure?!?!?!

Yes, prior to uploading I resize the resolution to 800 pixels wide or can go lower such as 600 or 500 to experiment. Saving as a jpg image will make the file size much smaller which is important. You can also crop or rotate as needed. Pixlr has its own instructions mentioned below to do similar.

Faststone I use is for the PC. You can use Pixlr or another iphone only image program to do the same things (instructions for pc and mobile are here). I just havent done much directly on the iphone recently since my pc is typically available. I believe pixlr now costs 75 cents a month for unlimited saves. The main thing is to look at the filesize to be under 300kb when you save as jpg.

Got it! Thanks Datadragon! I'll try doing it prior to posting. I'm just so used to simply uploading from my camera roll.which just won't work on this site.

No problem. Yes the size limit makes it not possible to just upload a typical iphone photo directly as is. If you don't like pixlr after you get that working first, there are a lot of other iphone image editors out there that can resize and change format like to jpg or crop/edit. I just havent tried those much yet since I mostly send them to pc anyway and work on them there so havent needed to yet.

Thanks again! I'll look into more photo editors for iPhone, cause as I said, I'm not finding Pixlr too user friendly!

I've never tested it on iPhone so I have no idea how functional it is there (if at all), but just in case, I might as well link the old image optimizer as an alternative.

Would be useful to have data on where it works and where it doesn't; AFAIK it was abandoned because it didn't function on some devices and/or browsers, and I honestly don't recall whether iPhones were among those. It certainly still works for me, on Windows 10 Firefox.

Thanks January1May,
Unfortunately, I don't think that the old image optimizer works very well either. It's even harder to use. I tried it before posting this thread and again after reading your post.
My question, as a novice here, and perhaps a silly question, but why do we need a photo optimizer? Is it to save space in the server or something technical that I wouldn't understand anyway? #128563;

Partly to save space on the server; probably more importantly to save space on the pages, such that visitors to CCF won't be forced to load multi-megabyte images all the time.

(As someone whose connection is frequently so slow that even the 300-kilobyte pics take a few seconds each to load, I certainly appreciate this!)
