Hello CCF... I was going through a few one cent coins tonight and found this 1989 D. Note the "gouges" above IN on IGWT. Also, I've marked what looks like it could be doubling and a few other strange marks near IGWT. I don't see the coin on any of the websites that I know about. I would appreciate your comments.. Jim

IGWT is die wear/ridge ring. The date is split copper plating.

The last polishing weakened the devices. So now the flow lines are not affecting the outside edge of the die. (Probably reduced it too much on that area) But note they are incuse, preventing them from forming the edge of the die on that area on the struck coin. Several coins will be looking like this as this is a die event. The reverses can also be affected with a similar look as well:

Just die events. No premium for this. Answers the question : "What is this?" Move on to the next coin.

Thank you.. Another example for Show and Tell. Does the Die Wear/Ridge Ring also cause what looks like split serifs? A new page in my learning book. Great graphics Coop. Back to the search.

I can see how this might be misconstrued as that Mule edge error posted earlier this week.

No Tacc, go back and look at the 99. The clash is above the letters and in between the letters and not straight. Flow lines are just in between the letters and straight.
