Not exactly the quality of coin I usually buy, but the guy wanted five bucks for it so I bought it. Weight is 2.88g and diameter is 19.6 so seems legitimate. Can't imagine someone counterfeiting a coin to look this terrible, but it truly is an odd surface.

Could it have been a once buried coin?

Buried at a Superfund site maybe! Yeah, this thing was subjected to long exposure to some unknown chemistry likely from being buried and found with a metal detector at some point.

Definitely a dug coin that has seen much better days. Looks a little like a damaged edge to me. Maybe a slight misstrike. The glitter makes it a touch nicer! Not! It's an interesting conversation piece.
