One thing I have learned with buying Buffalo nickels online is that a huge number of higher grade coins have been cleaned or dipped in some manner. Don't know who was out there doing all this or why, but just very common. This one has been dipped. Also a seemingly common thing is for Buffalo nickels to have exactly one long, distracting scratch on the obverse. I just seem to see this a lot, and this one also has that. But it does also have a great RPM.

One of very few US coins where I can never decide which side I like better.

Well Mr. Frog, now you've given me something to think about. I never pondered that question about coins, but I do agree that for these nickels both sides are very attractive designs.

Very nice example.

@frog - agree with you on this coin. Now go gaze upon an Oregon Trail Memorial half dollar and I believe you will include a second coin in that sentiment.

Trivia question on that topic - what is the connection between designers of both coins?

edit for spllgening

Well I had to look that up, but seems both coins were designed by the Frasers, with James getting official credit for each of those.
