I believe I have the tie-breaker for final (3rd place) main event podium finish figured out.
Check me on this - anyone can point out an error I might have made in the following.
We have 4 players tied with 40 points each - well played!
John1 40 <== Need Tie-Breaker
mcshilling 40 <== Need Tie-Breaker
Zurie 40 <== Need Tie-Breaker
jbuck 40 <== Need Tie-Breaker
So - by the tiebreaker rules on Page 1:
•These tiebreaker rules apply to each final contest podium position; i.e., there will only be 3 prizes awarded.
•If two (or more) players are tied for any podium position after the five rounds, the first tiebreaker will be the number of winning (20 point) rounds
John1, mcshilling and jbuck each have one round win.
Zurie had a wonderful contest with an amazing 3 runner-up guesses - but alas no winning guesses so by tiebreaker rule 1 is eliminated from the main event podium.
Zurie is now eligible for an Appreciation Prize - stay tuned for that.
Tiebreaker rule 2 from Page 1:
•If two (or more) of the tied players have the same number of winning rounds, then the second tiebreaker will be the number of runner-up (10 point) rounds.
None of the three remaining contenders for the final podium finish have a runner-up round - so you are making this challenging - in a good and fun way.
Tiebreaker rule 3:
•If two (or more) of the tied players have the same number of winning and runner-up rounds, then the final tiebreaker will be the accuracy of guesses (starting with Winning guesses). Accuracy will be defined as the actual numerical difference and not the percentage difference.
And here is where we split the slight differences and determine the final podium winner.
Following is a summary of guess accuracy for the 5 rounds of winners:
Player Round Winning Actual Error
John1 1 685 667 18
BStrauss3 2 1050 1034 16
mcshilling 3 1310 1327 -17
keith12 4 1967 1870 97
jbuck 5 3300 3312 -12
keith12 and BStrauss3 are already Podium Winners -
Between the three final contenders I see jbuck at 12 nickels off.Unless someone can point out a mistake in my methods:
Congratulations to jbuck - 3rd Place Podium WinnerWinner by final tiebreaker rule over mcshilling by 5 nickels guessed and over John1 by 6 nickels guessed.
Amazing how close that final position was.
