Hi all new here and mostly new to coins, but been educating myself well and wondering on any thoughts on doing a bulk submission to PCGS.
-recently did a regular submission, turned out halfway decent.

Regarding bulk, the cost does not seem too prohibitive: $14 if meets grade and $2 if it does not.

A couple of LCS are offering me $45 per coin and looking at price guides/auctions, etc. if I get a roughly 10% of them graded at say MS-64(this grade is ~$100 per coin) or better I am ahead after all is said and done.

I am in no rush, so I am hard pressed to see a down side beyond losing $2 a coin if no coins meet my grading floor.

Am I missing something?

Thank you and I search the forums did find anything specific on this.

You need to provide the coin type that you will be submitting. Price guides are often not a good way to value the actual selling price of coins. You can get a better expected selling price by using past realized sold prices. What is the lowest grade that you can get a better return than selling them to the LCS? How are your grading skills? Once the coins are graded, where are you going to sell them?

Do you meet these requirements? At least 100 coins and not more than 5 different dates? I've never used PCGS but the requirements make me curious what you're submitting.

Thank you I do meet the submission requirements and as far as coin looking at 1881-S Morgan, PCGS is showing recent auction prices in the ~$89+ for MS63 grade, eBay of course all over the place with some Hail Mary asking prices, and that is not my style. Grading skills would say poor, but using Photograde as examples, the majority of the coins seem to be in the MS range, no culled or F/XF/AU. Many look to me to be in that MS 63 - MS 64 range, some maybe even similar to MS 66, but admittedly sometimes I think some of the lower graded pictures look better than the higher graded: eye of the beholder...?

PCGS pricing is high. Best to go by eBay sold values not asking prices and look here: http://m.numismedia.com/rarecoinprices.htm
When sending in coins do not forget about postage to and from as well as insurance in addition to any special grading fees like errors or varieties.

My recommendation would be to post some photos in the grading forum to get idea of grades. One coin per thread on grading forum. Open an eBay store as it will reduce your selling cost. A PCGS MS 63 is going to sell for about $78 dollars on eBay and you will make a couple of dollars more than selling raw to a dealer. On coins that do not make the MS63 grade, you can sell raw on eBay and you will make a little more than selling to a dealer. The raw MS are going to be in the $60 range on eBay.

i add to this that even if they are slabbed your LCS is not going to pay retail for them

before submitting I strongly suggest posting some of the best ones in the lot for assessment. what some folks think are MS may in fact only be AU. we can point out what to look for. sometimes its very subtle

Great stuff thank you very much!

I will try to get some photos together and post them, again in using PCGS coinfacts, I am looking at recent realized auction results not what PCGS says the price is, and you can include eBay sales on that page, to get an idea of price, and sadly I would not be surprised if this is a coin that I parted with:

just don't forget high percentage "fees" paid to eBay, and of course tracked shipping costs (or send at risk with no tracking).

hard to justify ebay if you are only making a few dollars more than instant liquidity via LCS

just a note on slabbing. if what your submitted is not at least $150 you are taking a big hit and not worth it so you better be pretty certain with the grade.

like I stated post photos of the ones you think might be at that value or above and get some input. to an untrained eye you may be missing the little nuances that change an MS63-64 coin to AU55-58. on top of that TPG's are not the end all be all in grading. I can't tell you how many graded coins posted here that are not even close. this is why we always say "buy the coin, not the holder"
