The monogram above the galley prow looks like the ligate VAL of Valerius, 169-158 BC.

Thanks at @kam. Nothing is suspect to me regarding authenticity. Are you seeing anything concerning?

I am considering a near boil wash of these to loosen the glue or acetone; I have had good luck on more modern silver coins... Any suggestions?

@spence, good question. The hole is more or less patinated the same as the surrounding bronze.

I haven't acetoned bronze coins before so I am glad it looks better! I am not going to apply anymore. I am happy with the coin as is.
