Thanks again, HumblePie. I'll post before and after pics once the Verdi-Chem comes in and I have time to devote to the process. This is a great group and I'm very grateful for the comments and advice!

the only think i'll add about VC is that you have no idea what the coin will look like under whatever it takes off.
i can tell you that I have an 09S VDB that had some gunk on it. I was thinking of selling it so I used VC on it and subbed it to PCGS. it cleaned the coin up real nice however it exposed a light scratch that was barely visible prior to cleaning. the coin may have graded straight but now its in a details holder (scratched). if I had to do it over I would not have touched it.
the issue you have here is the verdigris which is corrosive so it really should be removed. as far as I can see from experience using VC in and of itself will not detail a coin but could expose something that could. I wish it came with instructions as I would have been more precise in its use rather than soaking the entire coin

Experiment first with a cull type coin. This 1864-L is too nice for a first attempt at using Verdi-Care.

Any updates?
I'm curious to see the Verdi-Care put to the test!

Started the obverse at 4:30 - figured I'd give it 3 hours and see what the results are. Photos to come.

Quote: OKGents, you won't believe it. Amazing results - About 30 minutes soak in acetone a couple of days ago. With the acetone - I would have let that thing soak for 24 to 48 hours. During that soaking maybe take it out a couple times and give it a good - wet with acetone Qtip swipe - around those letters and around the portrait. That real thin black layer you see tucked around the detail would more than likely come off. Make sure when you swipe/scrub with a Qtip that you keep dipping it in the acetone to keep it wet, so it will not scratch or scuff. If the coin was mine it would go back in the acetone for atleast 24 hours. Then some Qtip swiping to get that little bit that is left behind. Then a very short VC bath (5 mins) to finish it off. Whatever you decide to do from here is up to you. The coin looks far better than before. Again, congrats!

Great results!
But the gently wiping is a big no no, even with a microfiber cloth.
