I'm half way through this box of 'mostly' 2023D nickels, and I've essentially found nothing. Save a 1944 wartime nickel out of the blue and a small number of nickels with streak marks next to Jefferson's face. Edited by Joshu - a 05/28/2023 1:33 pm

That is hard to say with such a small portion of the coin to view. It could just be radial flow lines. From what I 'can' see they appear to be at slightly different angles emanating from a common center.

Yes exactly. I think this is evidence of a tired die. Is there DDD on the peripheral legends?

I would say the nickels are in a normal mid die state.

There were a couple of posts on here that I remembered but cannot find. They referred to a "struck through hot grease" scenario, that is what this reminded me of.

I'll keep looking. I want to say it was on a nickel or clad coin and it was on more than one occasion.

John1, "struck through oil", was the term I was trying to think of, which you used a few times. I'm not sure where I got the hot part from. This was the closest I could find searching threads but looks different. LINK http://goccf.com/t/425407&SearchTerms=oil

I do not think it is oil. Looks like "stretched" metal of some kind. Maybe Mike could shed some light on this one. John1

Here's a picture of a different one. The streaks are only on this one area.

It is a different nickel from the six that I found with this.
