@John1

Thanks. I talked with Heritage already. They said when I get it graded to let them know.

The Heritage do not give this service for coins. Many coins are intended to be summited and after the grading, the owners do not sell anymore. So they stop such service. I have no Idea for GC, but I think Ian stop also. They accept raw coins.

I submitted questions to GC, awaiting answers ...

bit of a rant here ... terrible how, when you think you know a dealer (or two), and come into their place with something unique and valuable their attitude seems to change ...

one dealer was suddenly the expert on this coin and telling me how it would not grade out at all, but for $200 he would handle the submission and the auction for only 20% + the $200

and the other was suddenly completely ignorant of this coin (i know better) and insisted it was only worth $200 and refused to listen to the fact that there is more than one variety of DDR for this coin

sigh. worse than used car dealers

ok. end rant

I RUINED THIS COIN

JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE GLOVES ON DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN TOUCH YOUR COINS

Here's the first pic I took on a camera that I could not figure out how to import to my laptop.

Then I ran my thumb across the obverse as I put it in a 2X2

going to go throw up again ...

Well that is a terrible shame, Yes, gloves will prevent fingerprints on a coin you should still remember to hold only by the edges even with protection, and to not rub the surfaces especially on proof fields. I use very soft white cotton gloves myself, the soft cotton will reduce damage to a coin but not prevent it. When I 'push a proof coin into my albums, I apply even pressure in the center of a coin with no side movements.

Your coin still holds great value, just go slow and be very careful with movements.

Bummer dude. A lesson learned for all. "THE EDGES!"
Yet still, a beautiful coin that I would be very pleased to own. I dig Franklin halves. First non president on US coinage I think.. An original patriot. Not nearly as artistic as Walkers(my 2nd choice)but I am more US history oriented.
Don't beat yourself up to bad. Still Nice.

Very nice!! I don't think you ruined it. Those streaks may have already been there and just not showing. The same proof coin can look completely different depending on the photo lighting, angle and focus.

Now I will have to go through my 1961 proof sets as I think I have quite a few!
