Hello!,

I have very new coin collecting. I was recently gifted a jar of coins by my late fiance which I have just started searching through. I have found this 1975-D penny which has the STA missing in United States of America (see attached Pictures) I tried selling it on ebay for 50$ and it sold almost immediately, so I was curious if it was worth more. Any input would be great, THANKS!!!

if your jar has 100 or more memorial cents you'll probably find another like it

I do not believe that this is a grease strike through. We see a weakness in this area on many Memorial cent. What is causing this is that the obverse design is such a high profile that it takes up more metal that is available to strike up both sides, and thus, the reverse suffers slightly.

Take note that the top edges of 'STATES' (closer to the rim) is struck up better, then look at the obverse, you will see that is the area where the bust of Lincoln stops and the field is at a normal level - this lets the top ot states strike up better.

Ihavec0ins,

Please post a link to the eBay sale. Looks like a combo of the natural weak spot and grease. Not worth $50,IMHO only worth 1¢ or copper bullion value.

to the CCF Dearborn answered your question. My question to you is, why would you sell something on ebay if you don't know what it is? I don't mean to sound rude, but there are way too many people selling things that way. It gives the hobby a bad name. Stick with this site to learn what is what. Your coin is worth $.01. There will probably be someone post that " if you can get $50.00 for it it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it" but that don't make it right.

thank you for your input. I was just asking a question to people who sounded professional. I can see that you are not welcoming to the community. I will just delete my account.

You have some listings running right now. Why is a 1970 Lincoln Penny No Mint Mark worth $65?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/404320906905

Here you have regular old pocket change listed for $32.50?

@Ihavec0ins I have found this a very welcoming and knowledgeable community. I continue to learn from everyone here, whether responding to my posts or viewing other's posts and responses to them. Look at links and feedback to not only your posts, but to others with similar questions or coins that you may have. You can search this forum for a specific coin and see if you find a similar coin or question. Also, valuable links can be found posted by others to various resources for your own research and learning to find out how much your coin may be worth and perhaps more importantly, why. In my humble opinion, I do not see any rude responses to you, but I realize that is a matter of personal opinion.

I hope you decide to stay and post your coins and questions, and learn.

We answered your questions. Value is 1¢
STA missing answer is a Grease Filled Die and or the known weak area on LMCs. Please tell us what comment is rude to you Ihavec0ins.

The OP has ZERO feedback but had this account ever since 2015 - I believe (my opinion) he is just posting up just to grab some fast cash at the expense of others. Usually we just report them to eBay to get the listings dropped.

As always, buyer beware. You can't just blame the seller.
