Can someone confirm or deny this is a broadstruck 1985 dime? I feel like there is more going one here, but I can't find much else. I feel like my researching skills are missing something. I check the usual sites(wexlers,variety vista,coppercoins) and try to study errorref.com and all they have there. Anyone suggest anything else? Back to this dime. Parts of the motto on reverse is missing from what I think is a broad strike. On the obverse, half of the 5 in the date is missing and the I and W in "in" and "we" are also missing from it.    |

I have a 2015 P that looks simular to your dime! It is in a 2 X 2 flip with a note 'struck thru grease'. Been a while since I looked at it and no date on the note.

The right side is damage, not so sure on the left side.

it's definitely damaged. On the reverse side, it looks especially clear.

Well from what I can see, the left side looks like a Grease Filled Die, but the left side was ground down, which is PMD - or damage. |

Ah, the 1985 dime... These are notorious for being struck on planchets with an Inadequate Upset from both Denver and Philly. I've seen many Roosevelts from the mid eighties that look just like your coin. The proto-rim wasn't high enough, so the coins didn't strike up well especially towards the rim. I have one like this, too. Your coin seems to show damage at K:4 on the obverse with corresponding damage on the reverse. If it has been broadstruck, the implication is that the strike was not constrained by a collar, and
thus no edge milling should be present, and it should have a larger diameter.

Waiting to here if the dime has any reeding on the edge.

Sorry for late response. I got a new desk and misplaced the dime for a bit. But found it this morning. So to answer a few questions;
- it weighs 2.30 grams
- there is reeding
Thank you everyone for the info. I am learning a ton. I have noticed that there were a lot of similar looking coins from the mid eighties (minus the filing) that I went through this weekend.
