I thought this was a beautiful coin. Best pictures I've got. What say you all? Is this RD? It would have to TPG at 65RD for the price to make any sense. Out of my budget, but trying to learn. Edited by Blastenpene4 06/05/2023 9:19 pm

Nice coin but I don't think it would be a ms65 maybe a strong ms63rd or maybe a ms64rd and that would be pushing it. Still a nice coin for any collection.i see something in the upper left field on the odvers what is that or is lit a play on lighting?

Yeah - I'm thinking it just wouldn't make 65. At his price it's just not worth it, unfortunately. What am I saying - I couldn't afford it anyway!

I don't like it.
Odd Surfaces, weird color.
Hard pass.

Blurry reverse pic, white balance out of adjustment. And I think it is also covered in Mylar but not positive. John1

Yes, it's in a 2x2 and the color looks wrong in the pictures. That 2x2 should be white. If I white balance for the holder, the color looks like this, which is probably pretty close.

the coin looks really close to MS65RD. the obv looks solid for that grade. reverse is a little out of focus and some shadowing going on so I can't see the surfaces well enough to call that grade
my question would be if this coin is borderline the difference between 63, 64 and 65 is quite large so why isn't this coin slabbed. it just makes sense to get the most for the coin. I'm betting it was slabbed and cracked out as it wasnt what they wanted

I cropped the pictures from the dealer. The wider shot shows an old holder with text on it. Dealer says he bought a coin collection from an estate and has many coins in the same texted holders all in this general condition. The holders look like they've got some age on them, so I don't think these are cracked out coins. He's asking more than 64 money, but less than 65 money, so it's a crap shoot for anyone with enough money to get in.

Love the look, but certainly wouldn't pay even 64 money for it without a slab.

I really don't like the color. PCGS and NGC are notorious for slabbing these as "Altered or Questionable color". I say 50/50 shot on a straight grade or details. I would spend the same amount and find a nice MS64RD or nice MS64RB that is mostly red.
No shot at a 65 though with all the marks on the reverse. If it straight grades, likely an MS63 with a shot at a 64.
I did find this coin on Ebay and it appears to have been sold and returned, probably for reasons stated above.

How can you tell a coin on eBay has been sold and returned? Seems like that would be very useful info that I didn't know was discoverable.

If you go to all of the sellers listings, there is a checkbox in (mine is on the left hand side) that allows you to see all of the sellers sold listings. It shows this seller accepted an off when the coin was listed at $499. The fact that it has been relisted tells me this was returned after it sold. Relisted for $80 more than before too!
