I just started reading about Lincoln Memorial Cents last night, because I encountered about 900 pennies to examine for errors. This is the short list that I compiled to quickly separate things into piles:
1971 (P) DDO
1972 (P) DDO
1983 (P) DDO
1984 (P) DDO
1992 (P), D Close AM
1995 (P) DDO
1998, 1999, 2000 Wide AM
There are other super rare coins like the 1970-S small date, but those are rare to find in change.
For each year, I read the Variety Vista listings for those coins. VV also lists the official Cherrypicker's FS-### designations. Then I bust out my little plastic magnifier, line up the coins, and go to work.
I also set aside all the misaligned coins, any pennies that have a really nice tone, and specimens in excellent condition for their age. The chewed up cents in terrible condition go into their own pile.
