Hey everyone! It's been quite awhile since I've posted on the forum but I found something that I thought I'd share here. I recently got some rolls of brand new 2023 P Lincoln cents from the mint and I came across this coin in one of those rolls. The V immediately stood out and it looks just like the other "extra V" cents that people have been finding, however the V is much further from the initials than on those examples. Has any on found anything similar to this? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Very interesting. Hopefully more will turn up and provide solid evidence that this defect was on the die. It's easy enough to misinterpret a random V-shaped contact mark, especially now that everyone is looking for Vs along the base of Lincoln's bust.

Is it raised or indented? Hard to tell from that angle, the way the light is falling.

It's difficult to say since my loop isn't too powerful, but I believe the V is goes into the coin, not raised.

Since I've seen this coin getting some discussion going on Facebook and other forums, I'll share some more closeups that will hopefully be of help.

That could be an optical illusion similar to the concave face illusion. Your brain wants to see the shape as raised, which is hard to distinguish from imprinted at that tiny size.

I might also add that this coin came out of a roll that came out of a box from New York, and some of the other rolls in that box contained the regular "Extra V" varieties in them.
