This last weekend my girlfriend received an inheritance part of it was an old safe from her great grandfather's estate and in it we found this 1804 silver dollar. Just wanted to get a few opinions thanks for your comments.

Honestly just about everything is wrong with this one, other than a basic similarity in the devices. Just look at the details compared to a picture of a genuine one.

that is not a genuine coin. Look up a photo of an original and make a visual comparison - you should quickly find lots of differences.

What else of interest was in this safe?

It's definitely fake. Probably not silver. You can try running a strong neodymium magnet over it to start to see if it sticks to the magnet. That would give you quick proof if that's what you need.

Maybe you are not comparing to an authentic coin. This is a very frequently copied coin. You don't see these differences?

Check the edge for a seam. There are casting bubbles all over it. Odd that it's in a great-grandfather's safe but it probably wasn't obtained that long ago. There are only 15 of these known, multi-million $ coin, and the chance a real one is hiding in a safe is pretty much zero.

The fact that he didn't tell anyone about it, or list it in his will, strongly suggests that grandpa knew it wasn't a coin worth seven figures.

The graininess of the coin, the ill-defined details of letters and the devices and the unnatural dark toning all point to it being a counterfeit.

Hey Lincolnhunter, compare yours to this one I picked up at a flea market 20 years ago for $3.

Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

What were the other coins in the safe? Although this is fake, it certainly doesn't mean the rest are fakes.
