What a story and interesting coincidence! I just finished reading a work of fiction by Steve Berry, "The Lost Order", which is about Confederate Gold Treasure buried and protected by a clandestine organization called The Knights of the Golden Circle, to be used for a future South. As with all Steve Berry novels, this story is based on actual facts and events, but with fiction and fantasy woven in.
The fork is actually not too unattractive, considering that it was mashed and buried for 60 years. Hard to see that it's copper that was silver plated.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures
Interesting storytelling about the "Great Kentucky Hoard" find and the walk-through to the sale with Jeff Garrett. It presents the nexus between history and numismatics well.

I know a man who works in the local coin shop that all these coins were brought into after being dug up. Man that would have been a crazy walk-in to get the adrenaline pumping!!
