Here is my situation, I have to take photos from my computer and compress them to submit to JC Stevens for the Lincoln BIE directory.. I started by installing PhotoPad image editor and I am able to use the app to edit and save my photos to the correct size required. When I email my photos to JC , he receives them from Gmail with the sizes altered and I am told that an email will automatically compress them to conserve space. ( All of this is very Greek to me) to begin with. What I need is to be educated on how to send a photo where it remains the size I saved it as. I hope I made sense to someone out there.

I just sent an email with a 777KB image to my Gmail from my CCF address and back. Still 777KB after 2 trips.

There are image hosting like photobucket and many others you could upload and send url to, and lots of file transfer services like https://wetransfer.com/ that are free for occasionally use.

Or you could add the images to a zip file and then attach the zip file to the email. The zip file when unpacked will have the original sizes. Programs like 7-Zip or WinRAR are popular but there are many.

Not sure why email is compressing, see if there are options or settings.

I downloaded the free app PhotoPad Image editor. In photopad I resize to required images name them then go to my gmail to send to JC Stevens for some undocumented Lincoln Bies. When he receives them they have been compressed from 350x350 to 318x318. JC requires precisely 350x350 and 800x800.. I guess to answer your question, I would assume gmail is compressing them. I must also admit that I am 20 years behind in the technology. Maybe you have a great suggestion to help me. The fact that you replied means a lot to me.

My forum friend, I must sheepishly admit when you said a zip file I laughed at myself I don't even know what that is. The concept of saving in a folder or creating a file and retrieving it from there is a foreign to me. I do not know how to do that YET. Please notice I said yet. Nothing in this world is that hard once someone shows you how to do it. I really really appreciate you taking the time to respond. You collect RPMS I have tons of them and would be glad to send you a couple dozen just for responding to my thread or anyone else on the forum able to help me.

In gmail, when you select the icon 'insert photo' then on the bottom right select 'as attachment' before choosing the file to add to the message. When I did that it sent the file and did not change anything like the size. Try sending it to your own email to see.

If the problem then is in the software somehow. Try the free program faststone image viewer I use https://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm
After the image loads, press and hold CTRL and then press R while ctrl is held down at the same time (CTRL+R) then release to resize up or normally down to any resolution such as to 800 pixels or 600 or lower on pixels-width and it will maintain the original aspect ratio. If preserve aspect ratio is unchecked you can change resolution to any amount but then might look off in some cases - The aspect ratio of an image is the ratio of its width to its height,

Press CTRL+S at same time to save in JPG format (there is an options button in bottom right to even adjust the jpg quality). Its also capable to rotate an image, just hitting R key when viewing the image. cropping and adjust colors like brightness or contrast is found on the right mouse click menu meaning you just press the right mouse button to see the menu then select the option. See if that works for you better.

You can use faststone image view to see the before and after image dimensions of any image such as what you are sending.

Hey my forum friend. Not sure but I think I have got that but not sure?
I take a photo with my coin scope. I then go to photos and edit from there. I resize it to as small as is allowed. I right click to resize photo making sure the photo is a square. From here I open PhotoPad image editor which allows me to resize to specific pixel size. (Mainly 350x350 and 800x800 and one has to be 700x350 (2:1) ratio. Once the pixel size is correct, I right click to save as and rename each photo by name and pixel size. now that each photo is sized correctly, I open my email and go to attachments and upload each photo by name and size that I downloaded. As I continue to attach seven or more photos in my email the come by name and size and are correct. I made sure of each one. When they are opened up by JC to review them the photos are now 311by311 not 350x350 the 800 pixels also changes to a smaller size. From the time I sent them to the time they are received the size is changing. I pray I made sense to you.

Install the Faststone image viewer and open one of the 350x350 images (then 800x800). When you move your mouse slightly you should see the filename and dimensions at the top of the screen, verify they are what you saved them as (350x350) or (800x800). This will verify if your other program is even saving them in those dimensions.

2) If it is the dimensions as expected and not different, try attaching to gmail, when you select the icon 'insert photo' then on the bottom right select 'as attachment' before choosing the file to add to the message. Send the message to your own email as a test (just one of each is fine for test). Download and open the photos in the received email and then open again with faststone to see if they are different.

3) If needed, you can use the info I gave to resize the original photos with faststone without having to resize anything first in the scope and then photopad to the 350x350 or 800x800 and may look better as its a better program. You would have to uncheck the preserve aspect ratio in the resize as mentioned if you want them to be those exact measurements - normally we keep it on when resizing photos such as for this site so the photo has the correct look when you resize.

I personally want to thank all who tried to help me. Somewhere I told myself there has to be an easier way than using some editing app. Well I resized my photos but adjusted them all to squares. From there I closed photos and reopened them and went to resize image and since it was a square already , I changed to the correct pixel size and saved it in photos. Now I send as attachment and the size doesn't change. Halaluhea!
