Found this nice shiney 48 year old penny at work, 3.1 g., Mint mark and date interesting but possibly PMD. Reverse 'STAT'e and the E not fully stamped (I seem to remember this is possible the case of grease? Please correct me if I'm wrong.) But pretty for 48 yrs old! High luster!

Date and mint mark need a close up with less glare. The weak states might be from grease, but it is also a known weak area because of the obverse area uses more up metal.

So I don't think the date is really in question more of the mint mark, added reverse issue as well, for more accurate assessment.

Agree with John1 on the 'reverse weakness' observation of insufficient metal--not that uncommon.

While shiny, the coin is showing evidence of circulation--lots of small dings, hits, and nicks. Possible finger print on the obverse. Given the posted pics, I'm thinking low AU range--AU50-53.

its really beat up and only worth 1 cent. STATES weakness is very common. not sure why it tends to occur around that area. the MM/Date are Machine Doubling

I'll say AU-58, pretty much just a spender.

It appears to be a high AU grade. It's a spender though.

SunnyNinaD - finding anything of decent value is kind of like playing the lottery. the chances are pretty slim. if thats all you have access to then you may want to search on Lincoln Memorial penny error list OR varieties.

things like the
70S small date high 7
1995 double die
1999S Close AM
1984 double die ear
1983 double die reverse
1999 Wide AM
