Hi
I was wondering if anyone knows when the SD initials started featuring on the 20 cent piece.
Cheers

Yes, they've always been there.

It's quite a small feature, so sometimes, it might "disappear" due to grease-filled dies. But that would be an error, not a deliberate omission.

Hi all,
Thankyou kindly for your replies.
I thought as much so however I have a 1966 and 1968 20 cent piece which very clearly doesn't have the SD initials, the queen effigy also is differnt size on both the coins. Once I have better light ii will take a photo and post. Could this just be counterfeit?
Cheers

Well, I can "clearly see" the SD on both these coins, or at least there is some kind of marking where the SD is supposed to be:

I'm not really seeing any difference in size of the effigy either.

As for the counterfeit theory, I don't think 20 cents was worth counterfeiting, even back in 1968. Can't say I've heard of any instances of it.

Have you checked the weight?

There is a slight difference in the placement of the effigy from one to the other. The bust on the right hand coin is marginally higher, stamped ever so slightly off-centre, but the size of each is the same.
It would add no extra value.
