This was found in a 'change jar', not a BU roll. Seems to be missing the majority of it's nickle cladding (some faint traces on part of the obverse & reverse rim tops). Missing the nickle on 99.9% if it's edge...
...The coin weighs in @ 11.14 grams (.20 grams underweight), & it's diameter is just shy of 30.6 mm (hard to measure exactly with my micrometer, but I'm getting 30.55 mm ... maybe within tolerance? ... )
posted a pic next to an Eisenhower dollar (same change jar...) for comparison.
...is this a particularly rare occurrence?, or fairly common error? ... any info will be appreciated ... thank you

Looks like environmental toning.

Thank you, Errers & Varieties, for looking & responding.
...Question: ... What type of environmental / external damage would occur without leaving a trace, such as corrosion, scratching, etc? ...
...I've looked at the coin with a 7x doublet & 10x triplet, & can find no evidence of acidic corrosion, polishing, scraping, etc. The surfaces are clean, clear & smooth, the features are crisp & sharp, with tiny flecks of nickle here & there...
...the coin is showing little to no wear, & I would put the grade about XF, maybe AU (no expert here...)
...I would be curious to know what could impact a nickle cladding, leaving no trace of it's action to the remaining copper...
...I'm leaning to maybe the cladding process failed on this planchet, but, again, not an expert at all in this field ...
...Thanks, again for the input, it is greatly appreciated ...

11.34 is normal +/- .26 grams. Looks like environmental damage to me not missing a clad layer.

( I'm no pro, it's just my humble opinion )
Searched 6.5 +/- Million Cents Since 1971

it would weight less than that if missing a layer, the toning might be the result of heating or chemical exposure
