I believe this is 65-QEII-5C-DDR-T2-S5 as referenced in "Modern Canadian Doubled Die Varieties" by John O'Conner. I recently won a small collection of different canadian coins at a local auction ranging from 1940's on up. I found this small 5, 5-cent as I started going through the lot. Even though it's banged up I was excited to find it. The rear claw looks like it has something going on as well as some minor notching on other devices. Thanks in advance for checking it out.

Good eye!
There is no small 5 or large 5.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Thanks! @DBM, I got that from the book, it labels it as type 2 small 5. I know nothing about Canadian coinage so just starting to learn about it. Thanks for checking it out!

@DBM here is the book. When I won this group of coins I began searching for reference material and could not find much at all on Canadian varieties. Then I found this book and added it to my library.

Great find gsp193! The leaf and "5 CENTS" is master die doubling but you are spot on with the doubled small 5.

DBM, that is due to far too many folks more concerned about looking at the obverse for large/small bead varieties and overlooking the reverse for the last 58 years. There is the following 4 reverse varieties..

- Small 5
- Large 5
- Doubled Small 5
- Doubled Large 5

I have BU rolls of all 4 varieties and released plenty back into circulation.

PS, if you are looking for books on Canadian varieties, try finding a series of guides written by Hans Zoell in the early 60s. I would guess there are about 8 or 10. They come up occasionally on ebay or at auction. They are very hard to find and have been out of print for years. None on ebay now it seems.

I see this new Charlton includes a reprint of his first guide.

Until the 3rd or 4th editions, both minor and major varieties were in the same pamplet(s). Then, with the 4th, it was a separate eiditon for minor and major varieties.
