I'm hoping for some guidance on identifying/authenticating the coin in attached pics..1870-s USA Seated Liberty 1 dollar
Providence unknown and whilst to my untrained eye it seems like a authentic and extremely rare coin of which there are only a dozen or so known to exist but does China counterfeit these also like other rare and valuable coins I've been reading about on this forum? How are they distinguished from a genuine minted coin?

Advice for best way to have it authenticated in australia ?
Thank you in advance

To me it looks like a cast copy. Abnormal blotch of casting right of the date by the rim, and an overall mushy look to her.

Yup. I only see one MM position on these and that ain't it. The date looks wrong as well. Other possibilities are an added MM or sandwiched coin, but I think it's a straight-up fake.

That's what I noticed as well, immediately.
The top surface of the lettering looks "bubbly" as well. AKA cast fake.

With a mintage of only 15 for this date, the odds of finding a genuine example would be almost impossible and worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Considering the mushy cast appearance, the denticles, the mintmark position and the over 1/2 gram underweight for its condition, I have to concur with the others that this is fake.

As you've stated, with only a dozen or so known, the safe bet is that all are graded. And yes, those in China fake anything for a profit. So understanding these two things alone I'm 99.99% confident this is a counterfeit.

The latest sale was in May for just under $1.1 million.
