[Sorry my pic didn't attach in my other post, was too big] I've never seen a FHD this "clean" looking without being actually "cleaned" and graded as such. I am torn, at first glance I think it's beautiful but then it's just so unusual to be that bright, and I worry the graders missed a cleaning. Thoughts appreciated!

100% cleaned, along with the majority of straight graded Flowing Hair dollars around today. At this level, it is easier to find an original example. AU level, very tough. Just cause PCGS straight graded it does not mean it isn't cleaned.

My cleaned 1795 VF dollar looks better than this one, because they left more of the original grime. As a result it cost far less than this straight graded cleaned coin will.

I agree with absolutely cleaned at some point. IMO the cleaning is significant enough that PCGS should have given the coin a details grade.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.artToo many hobbies .... too much work .... not enough time.

I agree that it looks cleaned in the photo, although it's possible that harsh lighting may have washed out the surfaces. Have you seen the coin in hand, and is the photo an accurate representation?

Do coins that PCGS "restores" get straight grades?

Beautiful coin either way.

Thank you all, the coin is up for grabs on GC, I didn't post it because I didn't want extra competition Now I think I will pass, unless it stays down at the current price, because of comments here, I would always "see" a cleaned coin despite PCGS straight grade.

The current bidding is right at what I paid for mine at the local shop a couple years ago. It was actually a barter deal for two stacker double eagles, when gold was a little lower. I converted stackers into a coin I've wanted for a long time. That VG looks like it went through the washing machine, followed by a Brillo session to add some scratches. No way a 200 year old coin looks like that after natural ageing.

This one should have been "detailed" for cleaning.

If I'm gonna be busting out that much dough on a coin, I'd prefer a more original example.

That is one expensive coin!
Nice seeing that they are not condemning every cleaned coin with the details classification.
