1921 P Standing Liberty Quarter. Counterfeit/Fake .

I couldn't weigh it out of the flip but it felt right in hand. It's priced at €120... Which is part of the reason I'm hesitant about everything in Rome... Confirmation? The denticle details above the head obscure the markers for this date. The reverse is missing details in the lettering (E's) and other problems that scream fake. The 1921 coins were struck with more care and all exhibit a decent, if not hammered strike. The reverse of the coin in question is way too lightly struck at the very least. Those raised "lumps" and a shoddy looking rim only add to the dubious nature of the authenticity. Pete Report this Post to the Staff

The E's in United States are kinda funny, considering they're not really "E" (missing middle crossbar). It seems to have circulated quite a bit so I wonder if it was a contemporary counterfeit. The price of silver during this era was such that you could make fakes out of real silver and double your money - there was less than 12 cents worth of silver in a quarter. It does have some circulation wear. This is how coin shops are in Rome. I get decent stuff at melt or slightly above, but there's always risk. Report this Post to the Staff
