Not sure what you're asking. Which does it really look like - silver or gold?

Does it look genuine?

I try to handle as many American coins as possible... This forum helps me learn how to authenticate and evaluate. I appreciate these exchanges a lot.

Assuming weights and diameter is correct.

By now... I only post when the coin has passed those tests.

You folks taught me that the first week

In that case, I'd say it looks OK, common date in this condition.

Am I the only one who sees a gold coin in the first set of images and a silver coin in the last set? Hence my original question. If it actually looks like silver it can't be real.

Priced to stack? Gold is a little high right now, and this should sell close to bullion, around $2000 USD. If your seller has the jeweler's test kit for scrap I'd have him run it for you.

Well used but I don't see any red flags. If weight and size are correct, chances are it is genuine. If you intend to keep buying gold coins I would suggest you invest in a Sigma gold tester.

Thanks everyone.

IGE - I rarely buy gold in Rome. What I have bought I have bought from a more reputable chain and had everything verified.

I don't see much american gold here. Sovereigns and Krugerrands are much more common.

The few $5 gold pieces I've seen have largely been ME counterfeits.

So I may stick to buying silver here and gold in the u.s.
