Awesome work @jbuck! For those who are interested more in the collection at the Smithsonian, here is another thread to check out (page 1 specifically) :

Isn't it strange how they are just hung up there on hooks, like someone's homemade basement display. I hope that's not metal-on-metal?

Thank you for the refresher! I thought I remembered a previous topic I could resurrect, but opted to start my own.

The ones that look like they are floating use plastic, but all the others (with a background) are laying down and held in place with metal.

I appreciate the comments.

Here are a couple of Hawaii coins. For some reason I forgot to photograph the information below. These were in a different part of the museum.

Yes, but here is the only photo I took, original resolution (only cropped) along with the 1974 aluminium cent.
What is the coin in the middle? It seems out of place. Is the Brasher doubloon on display?

Appears you are enjoying your DC visit - good for you. Thanks for sharing the photos.

I'm spoiled a bit by living only 20 miles north so I am able to 'pop in' and visit any of those sites any weekend day I wish to.

Thanks jbuck. I wonder if those hooks used to display the coins are damaging the coins.

My favorite is the 1849 $10 gold beaver. I used to work on the site of the Oregon Territory mint, though it was long gone when I was there.

Snapped this photo of a 1933, not the Smithsonian one, at the New York Historical society in November 2019. I believe it is the only one in private hands and was on loan to them at the time along with an inverted Jenny postage stamp.

I did not get the info card in the photo, so I have no idea and hope someone might comment.
