Anyone Seen This On A Genuine Trade Dollar (1875 CC; 1878-CC)? I Nicknamed It The "Notched R".

A couple of bad Trade $'s with a common feature.

Bad 1878-CC (obvious due to the type 1 reverse):

This bad 1875-CC returned body-bagged from NGC (owner has since sent it to me):

Notched R comparison:

The 1875 in hand:

No, I have not seen the notched R until you noted it on the 1875 CC at PCGS. I will keep an eye out for it.

What does the 1875 weigh? I'm surprised somebody paid NGC for that, it looks blatantly fake to me.

High mag pics needed to get a good handle on the surface texture.

NGC didn't say why it is not genuine.
Would have been good if they did.
We do.

For starters, the mintmark and location doesn't match a genuine example of the date.

Since the weight is close, I wonder if you can detect that the coin is thicker than normal.

A 3rd "poor counterfeit"! My new 1874-CC with the same "notched R" reverse.
