"The notes of lower denominations showed the highest contamination rates. The highest parasitic contamination was found in coins and banknotes obtained from public toilet services, butchers, and beggars.

Conclusions: The findings emphasize the role of circulating coins and banknotes in the risk of pathogenic parasite transmission."

Do we have some leg-pullers around here? There's quite a difference between pathagens, parsites and crawly insects. The study took place in a great locale to test for parasite and pathagens, since their environmental stature is so great.

Is the coin lacquered? I had similar bristle-like things on a specimen coin that I thought were retained strike-through. ANACS conserved it for me and removed the lacquer, and the "worms" were gone.

I don't think its Lacquered. Just a regular Business strike fresh out of a mint roll. Great article on coin contamination.
